Architecture
Internally our lead design architect set out to create defined light filled spaces scattered amongst strong architectural forms.
Externally the building expresses gentle modernity, blending seamlessly with the existing older structure and natural landscape setting. The roofs and glazed walkways are freckled with touches of unique character.
These qualities reflect the strength and modernity alive within the musical traditions that the RSCM represents.
While also expressing harmony, harmony with the landscape, of shadow and light, of open and enclosed spaces, of curves and angulation, of old and new.
The main hallway encapsulates these ideas, leaping arches rise upwards, intersecting with geometric linear forms. Small nooks and sheltered windows open out into angular, expressive, light filled spaces. Layered views throughout the building invite the visitor into a pensive mood, as they move through the diverse and rippling qualities of space.
